In this seminar, entitled ‘Society and language change’, we take a closer look at various aspects of extra-linguistic conditioning of the change at different language levels, e.g. the lexicon and semantics, morphosyntax, phonology and orthography. The participants of the seminar write their MA theses within the area of historical sociolinguistics and sociopragmatics, and investigate language change with regard to either distant or quite recent times in the history of the English language, depending on individual interests.
