A general survey course of the political institutions, geography, legal systems, cultural/religious context and demographics of both the United Kingdom and the United States. 

Building on the phonetic competence the students have acquired so far, the course is designed to revise selected segments and raise student’s awareness of suprasegmentals of American English as well as to increase their knowledge of weak forms and causal speech. Apart from revising selected aspects of American English, the course is geared to model students’ pronunciation on native speakers’.



2BA Integrated Skills course, 2022/23

Course objectives:

to develop:

– listening and reading comprehension

– spoken production and interaction

– vocabulary range

so that students consolidate their language competence at the B2+ level as defined in CEFR (see

below) and move towards C1.

The aim of this course is to introduce students to the aims, methods and subject matter of linguistics. It will show students different sources of information about language and hopefully motivate them o study linguistics further.
