When we don’t know the meaning of a word, we look it up in a dictionary. Occasionally, though, we read the definition and are still none the wiser, just as a person unfamiliar with cats would be upon encountering the definition above. What makes a definition unhelpful? Here, the answer seems obvious, but many definitional flaws are much more difficult to diagnose. What are they and how can they be remedied? Such questions will occupy us in this proseminar.
Credits will be given on the basis of attendance, participation, and completion of homework assignments.
