The aim of the course is to provide students with Dutch terminology and tools which are necessary to an analysis of literary texts, both prose and poetry. The topics discussed include: introduction to narratology: sorts of narrators, focalization, the function of the author, time and space, symbols, characters; poetry: meter, rhythm, kinds of stanza and rhyme patterns, metaphor and metonymy. Presented theoretical background knowledge is subsequently applied to discussion of a selection of Dutch literary texts.
